L. Feminine Hygiene Products are the Bomb

A part of being female is getting your period. There are already so many barriers to women’s health and reproductive rights, it’s frustrating that feminine hygiene products are still not considered a basic human necessity. Even if a woman can afford pads or tampons, that doesn’t mean the most cost-effective brands are chemical-free. I was shocked when I recently found out that most hygiene products contain harmful fragrances, dyes and even PESTICIDES and CHLORINE. WTF?

This stuff should not be anywhere near the delicate skin of a vagina and yet companies keep making products that could potentially put women at risk and cause long-term health issues (check out this article from CNN.com for more information).

I was eager to find a cost-effective alternative that would be chemical-free, so I headed to Target with high hopes. The pretty packaging of L. tampons, pads and liners stood out to me right away from a slew of basic boxes.

L. Feminine Hygiene products are made free from rayon, artificial dyes, chlorine and chlorine dioxide processing, phthalates, fragrances, deodorants, pesticide residues, ethanolamine, diethylhexyl adipate, chloroform, chloromethane, acetophenone, acetone or chloroethane (WHOA RIGHT?!?!).

What’s more, every time an L. product is purchased, that very same product is given to a female entrepreneur in need in a developing country.  What may be an inconvenience to an American woman, can completely prohibit a woman in India or Afghanistan from attending school or their job and L. is not okay with that.

But to my surprise at 42 pack of pads was only $6.99, 1oo panty liners were $6.49 and 30 tampons came to $6.99 as well. This is only marginally more expensive as the popular Tampax or Always offerings of 36 tampons for $6.99, 46 pads for $6.99 or 162 panty liners for $6.99.

L.’s website explained that they also make condoms and stands by their buy one, donate one pledge for these as well – protecting hundreds of women in need from unwanted pregnancies and STIs.

To make getting safe and affordable feminine hygiene care even easier, L. also offers a subscription service to get pads, tampons and liners delivered monthly, right to your door. It only costs a flat fee of $7.95 to get 10 tampons and 14 pads per month or $10.95 to add panty liners! I tried out a trial month for only $2.95 and it was so worth it!

I’m totally sold on L. Feminine Hygiene products and am happily committing to buying things for my period needs from them exclusively. I believe it’s worth investing in a product that won’t harm you and will help other women.

There are a few other brands like Seventh Generation and LOLA that are also trying to provide safer hygiene products for women, but based on price and mission – L. Feminine Hygiene products stand out as the ones to beat.
